Nice And Step On It

Nice & Monte Carlo

We arrived at the station Gare d'Lyon with much anticipation about traveling on one of the world's fastest trains - the TGV to Nice.

Some idea of the interior may interest you. It is a double deck train and we were seated on the upper deck in aircraft style seats.

You can see in this last pic that it really moves along up to 300kph. It is so quiet that Poss was asleep for much of the journey and Pop joined her occasionally. The fastest 'bed' we have slept in!

Although five hours seems a long time on the train, it did travel the length of France and we were able to get up and move around.

We apologize for the quality of the pics as they were taken from within the train or coach and it was a sunny day with lots of reflection.

And eventually the Mediterranean came into view and the temperature was in the high twenties. Tried to see our yacht and villa but Jeeves didn't show up.

This is coming into Monte Carlo.

We went straight from the train in Nice to the small state of Monaco and It'town of Monte Carlo.  Our coach did not get off the starting grid (which is still painted on the road) or pass through the tunnel as quickly as those F1 cars do. How do they manage these narrow streets?

We walked up to the famous Casino from the underground bus park. Not a bad work out for our old legs. We sat and ate a beautiful tangy gelato in front of the casino and watched the "rich and famous" (?) drive or park. We didn' t see anyone we recognized and no one fortunately recognized us - left our autograph signing pens on the bus.
They charge you to get in to lose your money!

We made our way through the crowds and onto the bus returning to Nice and our hotel. Rowland our tour director took us for a great dinner on the promenade called the SaraO. Lovely meal and wine followed by a short stroll along the promenade with the private hotel owned beaches and pebbles - not sand.
More on Nice tomorrow but from what we have seen we will enjoy it.
Love to you all.
Poss and Pop
