Ahh! Venice and Romance

Venetia(Venice)

Well as we settle into yet another hotel room (but this time in Italy), we have had a busy day being chauffeured to the next city in our adventure. We left at about 9:00am which is not too bad. The morning was hazy and so some of the pics may not be too good. The coast stretched below us as the Alps towered above us. The road dived through many, many tunnels and crossed some remarkable viaducts. The terraced gardens date from Roman times and the place is full of glass houses growing 'unidentified' plant matter!! (Say no more).

We stopped every couple of hours for a "P" break and a cafe and lunch but after we left the Alps the flat plains of northern Italy stretched out with lots of corn and vineyards. villages and churches started to look similar with the occasional castle to break the monotony of a high speed motorway.

The chief navigator even had time to consult her trusty map!
And eventually we arrived on the outskirts of Venice. We transferred from the coach to a large launchlaunch before walking to our hotel on the main thoroughfare "The Grand Canal".

This is the front of our very old hotel. This is where we had dinner tonight and will have breakfast tomorrow. Can you think of a better spot to simply watch thbe world and the gondolas go by?
Our tour included a gondola ride with the singing gondolier although because we were a group of fourteen he was (no doubt for OH&S reasons) in another of the three boats we were sailing in. A little walking and some prosecco at a bar and then water taxi home to the door of the hotel - literally!

St.Mark's Square at night

Our introduction to Italy through this most famous gateway has not disappointed us. We look forward to bringing you more of our time in this unique city.

Love from Poss and Pop.
PS - we did petrol head pics so now we will do something for the girls.  Bring these up in close up...
