Last of Old London Town

Our party with the Trafalgar tour gathered in the foyer of the Cumberland Hotel and walked a little way to a local pub for dinner - yes ! Fish & chips with peas or Bangers & mash. True English pub fare. The group had an unexpected withdrawal due to a family crisis and so our numbers were a very intimate 14 instead of the normal forty. We are not complaining but it may affect the availability of optional tours if we cannot get the numbers to make a quorum necessary to satisfy the local providers - eg The Moulin Rouge may require a minimum group booking of 10 to enable Trafalgar to offer this option to the party. However, the group seem a decent lot with Aussie couples from Shepp, Frankston and Canberra with a couple from NZ who we have adopted. All about the same age and disposition - even another Hawthorn fan who played in his early years for the club!!
Today we amalgamated with another Trafalgar group for a four hour sightseeing tour of London. Although we had already seen many of these landmarks, we always see something different or learn something new. So more picks:
Under this garden of flowers is actually a pub!

The  Albert Memorial  - look at the people at the bottom to guage the size.

Harrod's of course - hands in pockets Poss!

Statue of St.Paul at the cathedral named in his honor.
We actually departed the bus and went on foot to see the changing of the Horse Guard in Whitehall. Takes them three hours each day to get ready for work! Sounds like me when I used to have to go there.

From there a stroll across St.James' Park. Poss was delighted to see her old friends the squirrels only this time the red variety. They practically picked your pockets they were so used to tourists. Then rejoined the bus at Buck House.

Back at the Cumberland we had a quick pause and replaced the camera battery before venturing into the throngs on Oxford Street who were out in force for the sales at many famous stores. Dodged into a nice cafe for a sandwich. The weather again turned nasty and we did not venture out again until dinner. We went a few blocks from the hotel to a precinct called St.Christopher's Place which had an international selection of eateries. We chose an Italian (no chips and peas) and we were not disappointed - pizza doesn't taste the same as at home, dough balls and dips, raspberry sorbet to die for and espresso! No Poss we cannot get used to eating like this!

Just for fun we spent a little time and only one block in Mayfair photographing a few cars. We did not get some of the most exotic (a two door Rolls coupe for example or the stretch Benz Limo, Lambos etc. But all the cars in the separate blog page we saw whilst walking around the block. Just for our patrol heads!

We are preparing for an early start for fast train to Paris. So bye to Pommieland and onto the Continent.

Au revoir for now
Love
Poss and Pop
