Merseyside Memories

Parks and Ferries

Today has been dedicated to nostalgia. We are sure that the many places that we saw and visited would have some memory for Pop's sister and brothers. It was not a day for walking around with several heavy downpours breaking through the Summer drizzle. So it was sightseeing and reminiscing from the comfort of Leon(
The car).
We drove to the top of Manor Hill to St.Anselm's College and although it was closed for school holidays still evoked many happy and fearful memories. There was a notice on the science block that it was to be demolished- but Pop remembers it as new and state of the art. Across the Four Bridges and leaping with Chris onto the deck of a floating crane as it sailed through. The Bridge master had heart failure!!! Many of the warehouses have gone and the Manganese Bronze works that manufactured propellers is no longer there...but that is not surprising as the street Pop grew up in has long been buried under a housing estate.
We had a walk in Birkenhead Park and tried to take photo in the same spot that Pop took a photo of Maureen and Old Nanna.
The Boathouse now with a roof.

Poss standing in for Maureen.

But to our delight Poss got to see a squirrel up really close. It performed some amazing feats of contortion before settling into a pose no more than three meters away.

No Poss! You can't take it home.

The rain then really set in and so we sheltered in the cafe and information center were we had coffee and eventually lunch. But the weather did break and we headed for the famous ferry across the Mersey. It was terrific to hop aboard the familiar vessel although the landing stage and pierhead are nearly unrecognizable. The Liverpool buildings remain the same though and are particularly clean.

We spent an hour or two in the nearby Liverpool Museum and Poss caught up with a lot of the history of this city.  Outside the place was buzzing with Gay Pride Week and quite a few weirdly dressed people or perhaps they were clowns ...it was really hard to tell sometimes. The city seems to have embraced this rainbow feature and copied Shepparton with some Picasso styled animals. What do you think they are?

 A cat perhaps?

Or perhaps a colorful corgi?

What so ever you think they are, We are sure you can invent a story. There is of course a story about the pilot ship that could never be seen by incoming cargo ships. So they got some paint and asked the local kids to help them solve the problem. What a good job they did.

Tomorrow we are looking forward to mass in the Catholic cathedral in Liverpool. It is very different from the ones we have visited so far. Your names will be written in the book of petitions before mass and is then taken up and placed on the altar during mass. So stay tuned for a different church experience coming to this blog site soon!!!
Love you all
Poss and Pop
